Power on Dope Spin
Turn on your Dope Spin device first.
Update Your Dope Spin
Simple browser update in a few steps.
Recovery mode: that invalid-header loop means the app image is empty. Close the serial monitor, click Start recovery, leave USB plugged in. Latest firmware flashes automatically.
Step 2
Plug in with USB-C
Connect Dope Spin to your computer using a USB-C data cable.
Step 3
Click Connect
Choose a firmware version, then click Connect. The updater checks that your device is a genuine Dope Spin before any flash starts (works with older firmware too).
Close any serial monitor. Click Start recovery once so this page can use USB. Latest firmware is chosen for you.
Step 4
Select "cu.usbmodem" from the list of devices
In the popup device list, choose the port that contains cu.usbmodem....
If you do not see it, unplug from Dope Spin, flip the USB-C connector, and reconnect.
Step 5
Wait for flashing to finish
Keep Dope Spin connected until the installer reports completion.
Step 6
All set - enjoy Dope Spin
Close the installer, unplug Dope Spin, and get back to using it.
Troubleshooting
If you did not select a port because your device was not listed, try the steps below:
- Make sure Dope Spin is connected to this same computer (the one running this browser page).
- If your device has a power indicator light, make sure it is on.
- Use a USB data cable, not a power-only charging cable.
- Use Chrome or Edge.
- Unplug/replug and flip the cable 180 degrees.
- Close any app that may be using the serial port.
- If verification fails, make sure Dope Spin is powered on before you click Connect (not stuck in a failed boot).
- If a flash stopped halfway, use a support recovery link. Hold the button, then turn Dope Spin on with USB already plugged in — recovery flashes as soon as the port appears.
- If you see “does not look like a Dope Spin device,” you selected the wrong port or the hardware is not a Dope Spin.
- If the installer says it failed to initialize during a normal update, unplug Dope Spin, plug it back in, and click Connect again.
- If the serial monitor shows
invalid header: 0xffffffff, retry the flash and keep Dope Spin connected until the installer fully completes. - In the installer, confirm the chip is ESP32-S3 (not ESP32 / ESP32-C3).
